Methods for Locking and Unlocking the Nest Thermostat
The Nest Thermostat lock prevents anyone from changing the temperature. However, the Thermostat can adjust the temperature within the set temperature range.
Here are several ways to lock it.
Method #1: Through the device
The device is circular and has a silver ring at the outermost part. Meanwhile, the black circle with the screen is in the inner part.
To Lock
- Step 1: Press the ring key
Slightly press the touch bar at the upper right side of the Thermostat to bring up the menu.
- Step 2: Choose the settings
Once you press the touch bar, you will see the menu interface. Turn the ring to select the settings icon.
It resembles a gear, and most people call it the cog, so it is pretty easy to find.
- Step 3: Go to the ‘lock’
After you choose settings, you will see another light blue circle on the screen with the text which indicates its contents.
Turn the ring clockwise to navigate the settings until you land on the ‘lock’ page. Press the touch bar to select.
- Step 4: Providing the Pin
After selecting the ‘lock,’ you will be prompted to set a 4-digit nest pin code as a security feature. You will need it if you want to unlock the device later on.
You can set the temperature range by inputting your lowest temperature setting and highest. Select ‘done’ after to lock Nest Thermostat.
To Unlock
- Step 1: Press the touch bar
When locked, you can only scroll to change the temperature within the set range. Press the touch bar if you want to unlock.
- Step 2: Provide the Pin
You will be prompted to provide a pin. Remember the 4 digit pin you have set to lock the device? Enter it to disable the lock on Thermostat.
Method #2: Using the App on Your Phone
You can install the app through your android or iOS smartphone, so you don’t have to walk to the device to adjust the lock thermostat temperature.
The icon of the Nest app resembles a house with a blue background.
To Lock
- Step 1: Select the device
When you open the app, you will see the devices installed in your home. And it will appear as ‘downstairs’ or ‘upstairs.’
Select the device you want to lock.
- Step 2: Tap the ‘settings’ icon
Like the device, you must go to the settings page to access the control.
You will see the different features, such as auto-schedule, Time-to-temp, Early on, and the like. Scroll down and tap the ‘Lock’ under the ‘Wi-Fi connection.’
- Step 3: Set the Lock Pin
The app and the device follow a similar procedure. Provide the 4-digit pin, and the app will ask you to confirm it.
Just enter the pin once more, and you will be redirected to set the temperature range.
- Step 4: Set the temperature range and lock
The temperature range appears as an elongated bar with two large white circles. The circles indicate the lowest and highest temperatures.
After setting the range, tap the Lock button located at the lowermost part of the page, and the device is now locked.
