How to Change a Safe Combination Lock
Step 1: Look for the marks for opening and changing the safe combination
The first thing you need to do is to look for the marks for opening the safe and changing the safe combination. Usually, the mark for opening the safe is a circle with an arrow at the top of it while the mark for changing the combination is a line beside the arrow. You can proceed to the next step after you find these marks.
Step 2: Open the door of the safe and dial your current combination
Now you can open the door of the safe. Place the lock bolts into an extended position as you dial your existing combination. Instead of passing them to the opening mark as you typically do, you will have to pass them to the changing mark. As a reminder, do not re-lock the safe until your new combination is set and tested.
Step 3: Move the knob in the right direction
Move the knob in the right direction required for each combination number.
For the first number, pass it through the changing mark thrice in a counterclockwise direction. For the second number, pass it through the changing mark twice in a clockwise direction. For your last number, pass it through the changing mark once in a counterclockwise direction.
Step 4: Insert the changing key
Make sure that the knob is turned at the last number of your combination. Once you are done with this, you can now insert the changing key at the interior side of your safe. Do not insert it forcefully. Now you can turn the change key a quarter in a counterclockwise direction.
Step 5: Dial your new combination
As your change key is inserted, dial your new combination using the changing mark. For the first number, dial it thrice in a counterclockwise direction. For the second number, dial it twice in a clockwise direction. Then for the last number, dial it once in a counterclockwise position. Check if the knob is on the last number you have dialed.
Step 6: Test if your new combination is working
Don’t re-lock the safe unless you are sure that the new combination is set. If you made a mistake along the process, wait for a moment then do the process all over again. Once the new combination is set, remove the change key and try to unlock using your new combination. After you are done with this, you can close the safe.
